Welcome

The Gorilla needs our help. Threatened by the actions of man, this incredible primate is becoming more endangered every second and now it is time to act to save it. The UNEP Convention on Migratory Species (CMS), the UNEP/UNESCO Great Apes Survival Partnership (GRASP) and the World Association of Zoos and Aquariums (WAZA) have joined hands to declare 2009 the Year of the Gorilla.

The purpose of the YOG is to both raise awareness on the plight of the gorilla and to gain additional funds that can be used for conservation and education. Andy Rouse Wildlife Photography Ltd and ACTPIX Ltd are proud to be partners in the 2009 Year of the Gorilla and have jointly released this special limited edition print. 100% of the profits from this print will be donated directly to gorilla conservation projects so in purchasing this beautiful print for your wall you will be contributing directly to the future of the magnificent gorilla.

Generations

This image, entitled Generations, is the latest from the camera of international award winning wildlife photographer Andy Rouse. It shows a complete family generation from the Hirwa group, who live in the Virunga Mountains of Rwanda. In Andy Rouse’s words “I have worked with the Hirwa group many times in the past and have developed a special affinity with the silverback Muninya (known locally as “Lucky”). He is a very gentle giant and I am always touched by his tenderness with the other members of the group, particularly the youngsters. On this day we found the group having a rest after feeding for most of the morning, and as usual Lucky was at the centre of the group. Slowly, helped by my guide Edward, I managed to get into a lovely position that showed one of his youngsters in the front with the mother and Lucky behind. It shows a new hope for the future, a new generation of Gorillas and this is why I have called this edition Generations. It is one of my favourite gorilla images from over 50 gorilla treks and I delighted that it will be used to raise much-needed funds for the continued survival of the gorilla. I am sure that Lucky would approve too!”
